TRANSLACORE, a European network to coordinate research on translation regulation in cancer
“Translation at the Crossroads: A European Perspective on Protein Synthesis and Cancer”
This Special Collection of RNA Biology brings together original research articles and reviews from members of the European COST Action TRANSLACORE (CA21154), a network dedicated to understanding the fundamental biology of translation — the process of protein synthesis — and its implications in cancer.
Protein synthesis is a tightly regulated process essential for cell growth, proliferation, and survival. Disruptions in translation control are increasingly recognised as hallmarks of tumour initiation, progression, and resistance to therapy. TRANSLACORE was established to unite European researchers across disciplines — from RNA biology and structural biology to oncology and drug discovery — to address these pressing scientific and clinical questions in a coordinated, collaborative manner.
The mission of TRANSLACORE is to foster interdisciplinary networking, training, and innovation by building bridges between early-career and established scientists, academic institutions and industry, and basic and translational research. This Action promotes the exchange of ideas and expertise through conferences, working groups, short-term scientific missions, and training schools — reinforcing the principle that major breakthroughs in translational control and cancer will arise from collective effort.
This Collection reflects the breadth and ambition of TRANSLACORE: it showcases emerging concepts, methodological advances, and disease-relevant insights into how translational programs are wired and rewired in cancer. We hope these contributions will spark new collaborations and inspire further exploration into one of the most dynamic frontiers in RNA and cancer biology.
